Here’s a look at some local new brought to you by Silver City Radio.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham legislative leadership announced they will call the New Mexico Legislature into a special session beginning April 5th. The session will take up measures of economic relief for residents in addition to a revised supplemental “junior” spending bill. The agenda will include issues regarding high gasoline and grocery prices affecting consumers and a $50.4 million bill the governor vetoed earlier this month. The “junior bill” would fund many individual initiatives in districts statewide.

The Bayard City Council is conducting work sessions at 1:30 p.m. and regular meetings at 2:00 p.m. each month at the Bayard City Hall, located at 800 Central Avenue. Attendance of City Council members may be in person or virtually via Zoom and the public is invited to attend. Future meeting dates include; Monday March 28th, Monday April 25th, and Monday, May 9th.

The Rotary Club of Silver City inducted four new members earlier this month. The new members are as follows: Barbara Smith, a retired nurse; Art Thorn; Eddie Flores, a WNMU student; and Will Hawkins, Silver Consolidated Schools Superintendent. The Silver City Rotary Club participates in many community service efforts that benefit families in need, children, and academic scholarships. The Rotary Club meets every Tuesday at noon in the Sunset Room in the WNMU Student Memorial Building.

Individuals can apply for immediate openings at the Grant County Detention Center Job Fair this Wednesday, March 23rd from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. in the Grant County Administration Building Commission Chambers located at 1400 Highway 180 East in Silver City.
