Reports on Tuesday evening suggest Celtic were closing in on a pre-contract move for Preston defender Ben Davies but according to his current boss, Alex Neil, that’s news to him.
The former Hamilton boss says he has not heard from the Glasgow club about his player and that Ben has told him he’s happy to stay until the end of the season.
Spoken to Alex Neil at #pnefc this morning.
– Very happy with the transfer window so far.
– Further additions still possible, no time frame or names.
– Hasn't heard from Celtic re: Ben Davies or interest in Pearson or Johnson.
– Delighted with Iversen, Molumby & Whiteman starts. pic.twitter.com/HyfogqxFgl— Andy Bayes (@AndyBayes) January 27, 2021
However, CeltsAreHere understands Preston are fully aware of the interest Celtic have in Davies and know the player is in talks about a summer move to Glasgow.
Either Alex has not been kept in the loop or he’s purposely playing dumb until a deal is all but confirmed.
It’s also our understanding if Celtic manage to get the deal done for Davies, they will look to bring the centre-back in this month before the deadline. That would only be possible if the two clubs could agree on a small fee to expedite the transfer.
Celtic are in desperate need of a new centre-back and should try and push this all the way.
