The official YouTube app for iPhone and iPad has finally added support for the Picture-in-Picture mode for video. The Picture-in-Picture mode or PiP as it is commonly referred to was added to iOS last year with the release of iOS 14 however it took YouTube nearly an year to add support for it.

Before you get too excited about using the PiP mode on YouTube for iOS remember it is only available for YouTube Premium subscribers, and requires iOS users to have paid subscription if they want to take advantage of this feature.

According to a statement provided to MacRumors, YouTube plans to bring PiP feature to all US users, including those who are not subscribed to YouTube in the future. No word on whether it will be available for non-subscribed users outside the US.

Of course this is not the first time YouTube has limited basic features to its Premium user base. Features like ability to listen to videos in the background are also only available to YouTube Premium users on iOS.

If you have YouTube Premium subscription already, then Picture-in-Picture mode feature should be rolling out to your device soon. Make sure you are on the latest version of YouTube app.

If you don’t have YouTube Premium subscription, then you can get it for $11.99 per month along with a 30-day free trial.
