Pastor James Ng’ang’a to spend Sh3.5 million to repair ‘pathetic’ prison

James NgangaPASTOR James Ng’ang’a has pledged to spend Sh3.5 million on renovating Gigiri police station’s “pathetic” toilets and cells, where he spent two nights last week.

The pastor was detained at the station on Wednesday in connection with a fatal accident in Kiambu county that killed Mercy Njeri.

On Thursday he was charged at the Limuru law courts with causing death by dangerous driving, failure to report an accident and conspiracy to defeat justice.

“Before I left, I told police boss Joshua Ekirapa I will come back and repair the toilets,” Ng’ang’a said at the Neno Evangelism Centre yesterday.

He appealed to the congregation to support the initiative, to make the cells “better for those who deserve to be incarcerated”.

There was a near stampede as worshippers fell over each other to pick envelopes Ng’ang’a dished out for their donations.

Ng’ang’a blasted Inspector General Joseph Boinnet for commenting on the Limuru accident before investigations were completed.

He termed “grossly unprofessional and incompetent” the IG’s media briefing on July 27.

Boinnet said the pastor was not driving the car involved in a fatal accident in Magua, Limuru, where a woman killed.

“People started thinking he was defending me,” Ng’ang’a said.

“This elicited the controversy in which I was condemned unheard, vilified and lynched through the media.”

Ng’ang’a said the IG must learn how to speak to the media.

He told Njeri’s husband Martin Mbungua he did not need any forgiveness from him “because I am not guilty”.

The pastor urged the church to pray for the forgiveness of journalists, whom he said have dented his image by reporting “falsehoods” about him.

“Some of them are people I ministered to or to their parents since 2002, when I started preaching on TV, before they got where they are today,” he said.
