‘The Long Walk’ – Stephen King Movie Adaptation Finds New Home at Lionsgate
We just learned earlier this week that Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) is on board to direct an adaptation of Stephen King’s 1979 novel The Long Walk, and The Hollywood Reporter brings us some more information tonight.
The project had previously been set up at New Line, but THR reports that Stephen King’s The Long Walk has a new home at Lionsgate, with Lawrence in “final talks” to direct.
Additionally, they report that JT Mollner (Strange Darling) will write the script.
THR also notes that Roy Lee (IT) is on board to produce the upcoming movie.
“When you have enjoyed the strong creative collaboration and success that we have had working with Francis, you want to repeat that experience as much as possible,” said Joe Drake, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. “We couldn’t be more excited about reuniting with him on The Long Walk. He is a truly unparalleled talent.”
Stephen King penned The Long Walk under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. First published in 1979, the novel is set in future dystopian America ruled by an authoritarian.
In The Long Walk, “The country holds an annual walking contest in which 100 teens must journey, non-stop and under strict rules, until only one of them is still standing alive and receiving a prize. The story told of a 16-year old walker named Raymond Garraty and the teens, some good, some bad, some mysterious, in his orbit.”
We had learned two weeks ago that a sixth installment in Legendary’s 10-years-strong Monsterverse is in the works, and The Hollywood Reporter brings us the latest update tonight.
The site reports that Adam Wingard, who directed both Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong, will NOT be returning to direct the upcoming follow-up to Godzilla x Kong.
THR notes, “The parting of ways is described as amicable and stemming from timing issues. The door remains open for a future return, per insiders.”
Wingard is instead returning to his roots with the upcoming Onslaught, an action-thriller for A24 that’s said to be more in the vein of his earlier movies You’re Next and The Guest.
Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) is writing the upcoming sixth movie in the Monsterverse franchise. We have no idea if it’ll be a follow-up to Adam Wingard’s two movies, or if it will take the film franchise down a new path. Stay tuned.

We recently learned that “Monarch” is getting a second season, with more Monsterverse spinoff shows being planned at Apple TV+.
“Apple TV+ has struck a new multi-series deal with Legendary Entertainment, which includes multiple spinoff series based on the franchise,” the recent press release had stated.
