The CW Has Ordered Up a New Pilot Episode for “The Lost Boys” TV Series They’re Hungry to Make

We learned last year that The CW‘s already filmed pilot episode for a TV series based on “The Lost Boys” was being completely scrapped and re-tooled, with most roles being recast for an entirely different attempt at getting the project off the ground. And now Deadline brings us word today that the network’s second attempt at a pilot is going forward.

The potential series comes courtesy of Heather Mitchell and Rob Thomas, and the new pilot that’s been given a green light will be directed by Marcos Siega (“Batwoman”).

The original pilot episode, which ended up being directed by Catherine Hardwicke, has been re-written. An entirely new cast will be brought in for this second attempt.

Here’s the plot rundown, last we heard…

“The Lost Boys” is set in sunny seaside Santa Carla, home to a beautiful boardwalk, all the cotton candy you can eat…and a secret underworld of vampires.

After the sudden death of their father, brothers Michael and Sam Emerson move to Santa Carla with their mother, Lucy, who hopes to start anew in the town where she grew up. But the brothers soon find themselves being drawn deeper and deeper into the seductive world of Santa Carla’s eternally beautiful and youthful undead.

Indonesian filmmaker Joko Anwar (Satan’s Slaves, Impetigore), known internationally for stylish and gory horror, has a supernatural anthology series debuting on Netflix this summer with “Nightmares and Daydreams.” A new teaser gives a closer look at the strange phenomena haunting this dreamy new series.

Joko Anwar’s “Nightmares and Daydreams” arrives globally on Netflix on June 14, 2024.

Netflix describes “Nightmares & Daydreams” as “a supernatural thriller series that shows there isn’t necessarily a rational explanation behind every occurrence.”

Here’s the full official synopsis: “A sci-fi supernatural series about ordinary people encountering strange phenomena that may be keys to the answer about the origin of our world and the imminent threat we will soon face. Characters and plots will intertwine like pieces of a puzzle. And the big picture will be awe-inspiring.”

The seven episode series presents a different story and a new set of actors in each installment, leading up to a big showdown in the finale.

Ario Bayu, Lukman Sardi, Yoga Pratama, Fachri Albar, Marissa Anita, and Sita Nursanti star.

The series was initially announced in 2022 by Deadline as part of a huge slate of Indonesian projects that included several new series and movies from renowned Indonesian filmmakers, including Joko Anwar. The outlet reported to expect “Nightmares & Daydreams” to follow multiple storylines that would see ordinary people encountering strange, eerie phenomena.

“Indonesia is so full of unique and extraordinary stories. I’m always excited to have the chance to bring these stories to a wider audience,” Anwar told Deadline at the time of the announcement.

“Nightmares & Daydreams” isn’t the only horror offering in the pipeline from Anwar; expect to hear more soon about Siksa Kubur (Grave Torture), an upcoming horror film written and directed by Joko Anwar from the production house Come and See Pictures. The film is a feature length adaptation of the 2012 short film, available to watch now on Anwar’s YouTube channel.
