Poll: The Hard Decision, Seven Straight Weeks Of Horror — Pick Only ONE

Published

on

Typically the horror genre avoids the summer months, but leading into fall, studios begin to unload their darker fare. Usually known as “dump months”, genre films have stolen that identity and given late August/early September strength in numbers — we still see movies when school starts (most of us need something to forget about the looming year of homework and bus rides).

This year is one of the strongest when it comes to “dump month” as there are literally several straight weeks where we’ll be getting a brand spanking new genre film – one week even has two!

Looking through our coming soon database, I started to ponder which I was personally most excited for and thought I’d take it a step further and propose a challenge to you: Of the following films, if you could ONLY SEE ONE, which would you choose? Vote inside. Starting August 5 we’ll see Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Final Destination 5, Fright Night 3D, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, Shark Night 3D, Apollo 18, Contagion and Straw Dogs, respectively. It all comes to an end on September 16. That’s nearly two straight months of horror (fear boner!)

Explain your pick below.

7 Straight Weeks of Summer Horror:

Starting on August 5, horror fans will be treated to 7 straight weeks of genre. The question is: if you could only see ONE of the following films, which would you choose?

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (August 5)
Final Destination 5 (August 19)
Fright Night (August19)
Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark (August 26)
Shark Night 3D (September 2)
Apollo 18 (September 2)
Contagion (September 9)
Straw Dogs (September 16)

The new horror movie from New Line Cinema and director Zach Cregger (Barbarian), the upcoming Weapons is assembling an impressive cast, with Josh Brolin (Dune 2) and Julia Garner (The Royal Hotel) recently signing on. Deadline reports today that Alden Ehrenreich (Cocaine Bear) is the latest actor to join the cast of Cregger’s new movie.

The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.

The Hollywood Reporter teases, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Cregger was a founding member and writer for the New York comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’Know,” which he started while attending The School of Visual Arts. The award-winning group’s self-titled sketch comedy show ran for five seasons on IFC-TV and Fuse. He was also a series regular on Jimmy Fallon’s NBC series “Guys with Kids” and the TBS hit series “Wrecked,” and was featured in a recurring role on the NBC series “About a Boy.”

Weapons will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
