Hit and run suspected on highway in Madhya Pradesh as a Tiger was found lifeless

On March 30, 2022 a tiger was found wounded and lifeless on a highway in Madhya Pradesh’s Seoni district, according to a forest official’s statement, the feline was suspected to have been hit by a speeding vehicle. The death of the tiger was discovered through social media after some pictures and a video of it lying dead on the Nagpur highway near Batvani village went viral. A forest squad rushed to the spot after being notified of the incident.

The public of surrounding areas, created commotion on the spot of the accident around the tiger’s body but soon after the arrival of officials, they were dismissed by the police and forest officials, followed by them taking the body of the tiger in their custody for further investigations.

An official confirmed that the body of the poor animal was moved to Pench National Park where an autopsy is planned to be performed by veterinarians to find the definite cause of the death.

The forest division’s deputy ranger, Harvendra Baghel gave a statement saying ‘it is suspected that the tiger was hit by a speeding vehicle leading to its death, but the exact reason will be known after the autopsy results come out.’

The state has many tiger reserves, including Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench, Satpura and Panna as according to the All-India Tiger Estimation Report 2018, Madhya Pradesh was home to 526 tigers, the highest in any state of the country.
