Delhi Police transfers JNU violence case to its Crime Branch

As the two top officials of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) held meeting with the LG Anil Baijal, apprising him about the situation prevailing in the region, the Delhi Police on Monday, January 6, transferred the case of violence in the premier institute to its Crime Branch.

Reiterating the same, an official from the Union Home Ministry said, “The JNU case has been transferred to the Crime Branch of the Delhi Police.”

This comes in the wake of the violence that broke out at JNU Campus on Sunday night, January 6, as masked men and women attacked students and teachers with sticks and rods. The injured were rushed to the AIIMS and Safdarjung Hospital in the National Capital. Medico Legal Case (MLC) of 35 students, admitted at the AIIMS trauma centre and Safdarjung Hospital, has been completed, said an official.

The security has been beefed up and the investigation in the matter is underway.
