DAC approves for purchase of defence equipment valuing Rs 2,700 crore

The Defence Acquisition Council on Wednesday gave its nod for acquisition of defence equipment worth Rs 2,700 crore, official sources said.

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the meeting of the DAC, the highest decision-making body for defence purchase.

It gave its approval for three cadet training ships for the Indian Navy, to be utilised to provide basic sea training for officer cadets including women officer under-trainees.

The ships would be capable of undertaking hospital ship duties, providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, undertaking search and rescue (SAR) missions and non-combatant evacuation operations.
