IMD issues red alert for Mumbai, following heavy rains in the region

After heavy rains lashed parts of Mumbai, a red alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the city and the nearby districts. Heavy rains are likely over the region due to the influence of strong lower level wind convergence along the West coast and east-west shear zone in mid tropospheric levels.

The weather department has predicted heavy downpour the city in the next 48 hours. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has further requested people to abide by all necessary precautions and stay away from the shore and not venture into areas with water-logging.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Kishor Pednekar on July 15 visited the Disaster Management Control Room at the BMC Headquarters to review the measures being undertaken to tackle the heavy rains in the city.
