The communities affected in the recent carnage in which dozens were killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Girei area of Adamawa State have called on government to averted further and imminent attacks by Fulanis.
Addressing journalists in Yola, the Chairman of Njirya Community, Manassah K. Nayangom, said they were informed that a Fulani militia was mobilising to launch a fresh attack on the villages.
Dozens of villagers died in an attack on four villages in January.
This followed series of conflicts between the two communities, with the Police attributing the killings to communal strife, which culminated in the killing of a Fulani boy by youths from the community.
Nayangom blamed government for neglecting security reports from the communities in the days leading to the January carnage, saying similar attitude by government may lead the community to resort to self defence strategy.
He said: “We have gathered from reliable sources that some Fulani herdsmen have shared kolanuts once again amongst their kinsmen in a meeting at Tambo and Jera Bakari village areas, which is their usual ritual whenever they have an urge for drinking blood of innocent people.
Nayangom lamented the failure of security agencies to arrest the suspected masterminds of the attack, including some Fulani leaders in the area, even after the affected communities lodged complaints.
