The police in Zamfara State have arrested some persons in connection with the murder of Hajiya Hadiza ‘Yarauta, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Talata Mafara.
The Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara Police Command, Lawal Abdullahi, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Gusau on Saturday that unknown persons attacked her with sticks on March 29, which led to her death.
The police spokesman said that those arrested were currently helping the police in their investigations and those found wanting would be taken to court.
The party’s ward primaries were held last week in the state, with crises reported in some local governments, particularly in Gusau, Zurmi, Talata-Mafara, Bukkuyum, Bungudu and Gummi.
‘Yarauta was elected as the woman leader in her ward, Morai, on the day she was attacked.
In Gusau, the council Chairman, Alhaji Lawali Mada, escaped lynching by suspected thugs and aggrieved party members, who alleged imposition of candidates.
