The Delta State Government has expressed its determined to complete the N27.7 billion Trans Warri-Ode-Itsekiri Road and bridge projects, the Commissioner for Special Infrastructure, Orezi Esievo, said on Sunday.
Esievo told the News Agency of Nigeria at Ode-Itsekiri that N15 billion was earmarked for the projects in 2014 budget.
She said that when completed, the 19.5km road and bridge as well as other 7km internal road projects would stimulate economic and social activities in the 10 riverine communities in the area.
The communities are in Warri South-West Local Government Area of the state.
The commissioner said that the project would connect Ode-Itsekiri, Orugbo and the other communities, with the upland 55 per cent completed.
Esievo said: “At present, we have been able to access five communities and as work progresses the other five communities will be linked up.
“Once this project is completed, the people in these communities, who are majorly fishermen and women, will easily take their products to markets within and outside the state.”
Esievo also said that the state government was carrying out a similar project in Abigborodo in Warri North Local Government Area of the state.
She said that the Abigborodo project was nearing completion, adding that people could now drive into the riverine community.
Some of the residents commended the state government for the projects and said that when completed, the projects would accelerate development in the area.
