Unknown gunmen early on Wednesday killed two persons and injured 12 others at Maihukri Gold Village in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
ASP Dominic Esin, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Police Command in Plateau State, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Jos, the state capital, on Thursday.
Esin said that some youths, who were dancing in the village square, were attacked by the gunmen, leading to the death of two of the dancers and 12 others injured.
“The corpse of the deceased persons have been deposited in a hospital in Jos while the injured were rushed to some hospitals for treatment,” he said.
Esin said that patrol and surveillance had been intensified in the area to track the assailants.
He urged members of the public to assist the police with useful information that would lead to the arrest of the perpetrators of the act.
Esin, however, said that normalcy had been restored to the area.
