Banditry and terrorism are twin problems impeding the economic growth of the Nation and unless the perpetrators of these activities are identified, arrested and prosecuted, our economic growth will remain a mirage.
These are views of the executive members of an interdenominational pressure group, the Christian Conscience. The group expressed this after its monthly meeting held in Ikeja, Lagos on Tuesday.
In a joint statement signed after the meeting by its National Chairperson, Dr. Yetunde Akinluyi and the National Secretary, Revd. Kolawole Verralls, the group deliberated on the activities of terrorism and banditry as being shared or experienced. The killing of innocent souls across the nation, kidnapping of students from various locations and other random attacks had caused lots of distractions and disturbances amongst others.
“It is really appalling and disheartening seeing our dear nation under the siege of banditry and terrorism where farmers who are supposed to produce food and crops for the Nation are being dehumanized and killed. Nigeria relatively must be safe at all times”, the group insists.
“Urging Nigerians to sustain the resilience nature we are known for, but also to continue to pray to God for His intervention in the affairs of the nation so that our lost glory shall be restored. All Prayers must be followed with positive actions and habits of all Nigerians.”
Reflecting on the 61st Anniversary of Nigeria, the group says, “We congratulate our gallant men and women of the Armed Forces, patriotic and proactive Nigerians who are fighting day and night to keep Nigeria safe and united.
The group also urges the Buhari-led government to create more avenues for interactive sessions, engage in objective and productive town hall meetings because
the economic growth and sustenance of the Nation is the concern of all.
In further discussions, the group persuades political and Christian leaders to intensify fervent and ceaseless prayers for Nigeria so as to surmount her numerous problems. “Our political leaders are called upon to formulate, initiate and embark on policies that will unite and take Nigeria to a greater height.”
