STATEMENT

My artwork is determined by the interpretation of memory through the use of collage techniques and accumulation. More than mere transcriptional aesthetics, the focus of my work is to capture and to translate the maze of collective memories of other individuals, as well as my own, that have faded or become vague, acquiring new value as they age.

For many years I’ve been collecting vintage books and magazines, postcards, letters, essays, audiovisual records and random objects with no apparent value. This endless research led me to a great production of illustrations and digital images that have drawn a thin line between applied fine arts and fine arts. A small but growing part of my work is devoted to so-called specific objects, where artifacts gain new emotional value when placed in another context. I currently prioritize research allied with audiovisual creation through sound files and video documents.

BIO

I was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 1980. Since I was a child, I have been drawing and interpreting what I see in a spontaneous way, experimenting with different techniques and looking for new ways to materialize certain passions.

In 2003, I settled in Paris for an indefinite period, where I continued my design and architecture studies. The years working in those areas taught me a rigid take on the creative process, where I learned that some very specific steps had to be respected and followed. I began to apply these rules to my own work, which little by little lead me in 2009 to dedicate myself mostly to art and illustration.

My ideal work environment needs nothing more than scissors, glue, pencils, old paper, found pictures and a Macintosh. Finding inspiration in different fields such as natural history, philosophy, animal behaviour, organic shapes of nature, fine arts, semiotics, antique books, movies, and especially in music is how my work takes shape. My family and friends are my essential source for creation, without them I can’t breathe or dare to do the impossible.
