Trump endorses Greg Pence, brother of Mike Pence, in Indiana congressional race
Former United States president Donald Trump endorsed Greg Pence, the brother of former vice president Mike Pence, in his Indiana congressional race on Friday. Greg Pence went on to win the primary on Tuesday.
The statement from Trump came as a surprise to many just weeks after the former president and vice president traded words publicly over whether Mike Pence could have done more to help prevent the confirmation of Joe Biden as winner of the 2020 election.
“Congressman Greg Pence is doing a great job representing the people of Indiana’s 6th Congressional District,” Trump wrote in the statement.
He continued, “A former First Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps, Greg continues to proudly serve our Country in the U.S. House of Representatives. Greg is working hard to reverse Joe Biden’s disastrous record of out-of-control Inflation and restore the respect our Country deserves from abroad. He is Strong on the Border, Protects Life, Defends the Second Amendment, and Supports our brave Military and Vets. Greg Pence has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”
Greg Pence, who ran for reelection as the Representative for Indiana’s 6th Congressional District, has served since 2019. Trump endorsed him last week, ahead of the Indiana Republican primary on Tuesday, and Pence was announced the winner of the 6th Congressional District late Tuesday night.
Greg Pence voted against the confirmation of President Joe Biden in January 2021, and rarely speaks publicly about his brother, Trump’s former vice president. Notably, Trump’s endorsement statement also failed to mention Mike Pence.
Greg Pence will advance to the November election, where he will face off against Democrat Cynthia Wirth for the Congressional seat.
