The BBC have switched from Flash to HTML5 on its mobile sites. Previously it wasn’t possible to play embedded videos on a device like the iPad but now you can watch the videos. As well as the BBC News site the BBC iPlayer service will now work on the with HTML5, I tried it on the Windows 8 Metro web browser (which doesn’t support Flash) and it still displays a message saying you need Flash player but hopefully the BBC can get that fixed soon.

Details from the BBC:

You can now watch video on the BBC News website on your Apple iOS device.

Supported devices include the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

Certain content is currently excluded, including live video and clips that are audio only. We hope to be able to introduce these soon. Videos that are currently excluded will appear with the message ‘This content is not currently available for your device
