Volume Twenty-Two

If you get a chance to pull yourselves away from the Monday coverage of the PGA Championships, take a look at this week’s links.

Hittin' the LinksI hate waiting. I can’t imagine what these guys are thinking having to wait overnight to finish their rounds at the PGA Championship. Waiting will only hurt Tiger’s chances of winning. Do you think he really believes he stands a chance? I don’t. I think -5 will win it.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to hurry up and finish this week’s column so that I can watch the leaderboard on the Internet.

Hole 1: He’s on Fire!
Michael Jordan has gotten himself involved in an arson investigation stemming from a group he was playing golf with. [link]

Hole 2: What’s More Fun?
Is it just me, or is it more fun watching Tiger scramble to make the cut than it is to watch him win majors? Maybe not all the time, but it is fun to see his never-say-die attitude at its peak. That’s probably what I enjoy most about him. He never quits, he doesn’t take plays off and he puts it all out there. [link]

Hole 3: Content is King
Jay Flemma keeps pumping out great content on his blog. Not. Check out this little nugget, “Baltusrol fits Power Serge like baked hams fit on Oprah.” I don’t understand. [link]

Hole 4: MJ is Back
MJonGolf is back. I think. Actually, I can’t tell if he’s ever really left. Now he’s got a new focus dealing with “Moe Norman’s single-axis swing.” Anywho. Welcome Back. Again. [link]

Hole 5: US Prevails
Finally, the US has defeated Great Britain and Ireland in the Walker Cup. I love team golf. I think there should be more events focused on this aspect of the game. It’s so exciting. [link]

Hole 6: Is Tiger as Dominant as he was in 2000?
Here’s a good read that came out prior to the PGA Championship. I don’t think he’s as dominant for one reason: everyone else has gotten better and closed the gap. In 2000 if Tiger even showed up he was winning the tournament and a large part of that was because players were intimidated. Now, players realize they can be as good as him and have taken actions to become better (i.e., get a personal trainer). What do you think? Leave comments. [link]

Hole 7: Pressell and Creamer Watch
Here’s this week’s update on who I think the future of LPGA are doing. Pressell loses in a playoff in the North-South Amateur on the third hole. While Creamer won her third title this year in Japan at the NEC Karuizawa tournament. [link | link]

Hole 8: The Life of Nationwide Caddies
I never thought about these guys until I read this. Man that must be stressful to be caddie for a guy you don’t whether he’ll make it or not. I love it. [link]

Hole 9: Is Jack Nicklaus God?
I own a 1-iron and have never been able to hit it. This article is cool that a guy tried to recreate Nicklaus miracle shot in the 1967 U.S. Open at Baltusrol. Needless to say, he couldn’t pull it off. I’m not sure too many people can. Lee Trevino once said that in a lightning storm you can hold a 1-iron in the air and be safe because not even God can hit a 1-iron. So true, Lee. I guess that’s why Jack is God. [link]
