F-100 Super Sabre BuNo. 54-2299:
Built by North American Aviation. This is the first USAF operational aircraft capable of flying faster than 760 mph in level flight, which meant it was the first USAF fighter to go supersonic. Cruising speed was 600mph with a range of 1,3500 miles and a ceiling of 51,000 feet. This aircraft was a fighter/bomber and served the USAF from 1954 to 1971. Former Thunderbird during the Far East Tour in 1959. On loan from United States Air Force’s National Museum. This was the first plane in Joe Davies Heritage Airpark. A/C SN: 54-2299

50 minutes long exposure in total. I stacked 100 photos of 30 seconds each at f/5.6, ISO 400 3850K using Photoshop CS6 2015-05-02 started before midnight. Light painting with a Protomachine LED2. All illumination and color work was done during the exposure, and is not a Photoshop creation.

The Joe Davies Heritage Airpark in Palmdale, CA showcases a collection of aircraft flown, tested, designed, produced or modified at U.S. Air Force Plant 42, a source of pride and prestige for the city. The airpark was rededicated in Joe’s name in February 2008 in recognition of his tenure as commander of Plant 42, his service as a Palmdale City Councilman, and his role as commissioner on Palmdale’s Aviation and Aerospace Commission. The airpark displays aerospace, military, and civilian aircraft. I feel grateful and honored to have been granted access at night to photograph these magnificent planes.
