Robert Walker
Robert Walker, a National Board Certified social studies teacher at Academy of the Canyons will be traveling to Morocco March 8-22 as part of the State Department’s Teachers for the Global Classroom Initiative.
This competitive fellowship program fosters global competency education through an intensive online professional development course, a visit to Washington DC for a global education symposium, and a two week foreign exchange program. While Walker is in Morocco he will be regularly updating a website and blog with information on Morocco and its culture, posting lessons for students and community members to help them learn about Morocco and its relationship with America, and responding to student questions and requests.
He is also planning on presenting some lessons live to AOC students while he is abroad, and video conferencing with parents and students during the school’s open house on March 13.
Upon returning from Morocco, he will continue to build materials and presentations to help other teachers build global competency into their classes. Students and teachers from across the Hart district are invited to follow his trip by visiting www.globalaoc.org. For questions or more information on this trip or the TGC program please contact Academy of the Canyons at 661-362-3056 and talk with Robert Walker or Principal Pete Getz or email rwalker@hartdistrict.org or pgetz@hartdistrict.org.
Walker was the Academy of the Canyons teacher of the year for 2006-2007.
