2002 - LASD Deputy David March, Canyon grad & Saugus resident, murdered during traffic stop [story]
Deputy David March

All lanes of the southbound 14 freeway just past Escondido Canyon Road are closed due to an 18-vehcile accident. Two of the northbound lanes (the carpool and left lane) are closed, as well.

Traffic is backed up to Sierra Highway and is moving very slowly from Agua Dulce.

NBC4 is reporting that 15 people have been injured, two of them critically. The accident may have been caused by a truck hauling two trailers of sand, which spilled 25 tons of sand on the freeway.

Video of the crash site shows cars piled one on top of the other in several spots.

It’s amazing that this is the first time this has happened. Those dirt haulers have been leaving layers of dirt on the freeway for months now!! We live close enough to the freeway to notice the layer of dirt that collects on our cars overnight in most cases. Wash your car one day, the next day its covered with more dirt. Last Thursday, we entered the SB 14 freeway from the Sand Canyon onramp and were greeted with a noticable dust cloud from 2 double dirt haulers who had already gone by a few minutes earlier.
