Corto Maltese is a “cult” character of the best of the European graphic novel genre, but also a veritable 20th century literary legend. He’s a traveler, an ironic sailor who combines Mediterranean looks and character traits with Anglo-Saxon culture.
Corto, which in Spanish means “fast”, was created in 1967 by the great Venetian illustrator Hugo Pratt.
Corto is an anti-hero who prefers freedom and imagination to wealth. He’s a modern-day Ulysses who takes us along on his travels to the most fascinating places in the world.

In 2011, acclaimed indie cartoonist Tom Hart founded SAW to help aspiring cartoonists from all backgrounds, identities, and walks of life to make great comics. SAW’s Comics Intensive is high-quality, very affordable alternative to expensive art schools. Over 400 students have studied in our low-cost programs, whether at weeklong workshops, in evening classes, in our full-year comics intensive, or through our online offerings.
At SAW we help budding cartoonists discover their own path in visual storytelling. Students learn core comics techniques like storytelling, character creation, panel design, storyboarding, inking and lettering.
In addition to a enthusiastic, supportive community of artists, resources at SAW’s headquarters in Gainesville, FL include studio space, a well-stocked comics reference library, printing materials, access to exhibition spaces and first-rate instructors armed with knowledge, talent, experience and generosity of spirit.
SAW brings celebrated cartoonists from around the world to Gainesville to lecture, teach workshops, and exhibit their work.
We host art shows, draw jams, talks, and other events, helping to make Gainesville a vibrant oasis of creativity in the region.
Through a variety of online offerings, from courses to one-on-one instruction to comics mentorship groups, we’ve made the unique SAW experience available around the world.

Indulge me a modest monthly contribution and I will mail 4 issues of Grixly (and the occasional bonus mini comic) to you every year. I’ve been self publishing Grixly since 2009 and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to stop. Not because a poet resides in my heart but because I am sick and my work is roughly half way between stinky shack crazy man violence manifesto and a comic that is fully worth your time. Grixly is a quarterly comics publication that features at least 16 pages and sometimes a little extra. I’ll make sure those of you who drink the blood from the Patreon Chalice get a little more sugar than those naked and ignorant digging for lichens to nourish their annihilated frames out among the jagged rocks. Show me where a more red hot deal exists baby!
This site and webshop is till a work in progress. It will be better as time goes by, but for now we hope it’s good enough to purchase books from.
However, if you happen upon any weird quirks or bugs, feel free to report them to
