I will take the participants through the development of a handwoven ikat motif, including warp, weft, and compound designs. I plan to demonstrate how to design and construct the warp to feature the patterned areas, and then do the same with the weft with particular focus on where the patterns intersect. Then I will talk about binding warp and weft bundles. I plan to continue with a brief discussion of dyeing, and dressing the loom.
Time permitting, participants may design their own ikat motifs.
