Teaching

I teach both introductory chemistry courses and upper-level physical chemistry courses. In all courses, I aim to foster a sense of community through low stakes team-based learning activities. To help students understand the human aspect of chemistry I have developed a series of short lectures on “Humans in Chemistry” geared towards first year students. This series is inspired by Being Human in STEM and focuses on ground-breaking humans of chemistry, chemistry in the real world, and metacognitive approaches students can take to the coursework.

In physical chemistry, we have developed computational labs that use editable python notebooks housed on Google Colaboratory. These labs are designed to be performed virtually and focus on 1) Random walkers as models for diffusion and 2) the Ising model to understand phase transitions.
