We felt lazy so took the funicular up Vomero Hill which is a lovely oasis of peace and tranquility away from the bustling city below. On the top of the hill is Castel Sant’Elmo and the Certosa di San Martino and Museo Nazionale.
The Certosa was built as a monastery in the 14th Century but has been a museum since 1866 with its focus on Neopolitan art and history.
The strategically placed 14th century Castel Sant’Elmo on the top of Vomero Hill commands wonderful views over the Bay of Naples.
If you choose to walk back there is the attractive Via Pedamentina a San Martino which is a lovely [and steep] path to the bottom of the hill offering spectacular views of Naples most of the way.
