Honorary Degree (1992) George H. Dixon ’31

George H. Dixon, a current resident of Atlanta, Ga., is a native of Glen Jean (Fayette County) W.Va., and a graduate of Wesleyan with the class of 1931. He is married to Virginia Farnsworth Dixon, also a Wesleyan graduate with the class of 1934. Mr. Dixon is a former public school teacher and administrator in West Virginia. He pursued a career in textbook publishing, rising to vice president in the education division of Doubleday and Company before retiring. For more than 60 years, Mr. Dixon has demonstrated loyalty and support for Wesleyan by volunteering time to recruit students, serving as alumni class agent, taking a leadership role in Wesleyan’s alumni activities, and serving on the Alumni Council. He received the Alumni Award in 1974, is a member of the Emeritus Club, was involved in forming the Nicholas Hyma Memorial Scholarship and, with his wife, established the George and Virginia Dixon Scholarship.
