My name is Mike and I’m a blogger and YouTube content creator from Canada. For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a passion for computers and technology. Although this eventually led me into a career in IT, PC hardware and gaming was always my main interest and hobby. Back in 2017, I rediscovered the computing era I grew up with in the nineties, which was a very exciting time for me. It all started when my brother-in-law gave me a 486 and Pentium system that were collecting dust in his basement. In no time I was hooked and began building, repairing and restoring old PCs again. It was very enjoyable to find and test old components that I was never able to afford back then and to play many of the classic games I loved. It didn’t take me long to discover a huge community of great folks out there with similar interests and I decided to start sharing my learnings and experiences.

Why the name vswitchzero?
Good question! I’ll admit, it’s a pretty bad name for someone who deals primarily with retro PC hardware. I’ve worked for VMware for many years now and started this site back in 2017 to blog on work related topics. Every time you deploy a VMware ESX host, a default virtual switch is created called “vSwitch0”. Since I specialized in virtual networking, it seemed like a cool name at the time. I did write the occasional retro PC blog post back then for fun, but as time passed and I got more and more burnt out with work, I started shifting away from VMware related content. After working eight or more hours per day, I found it a lot more enjoyable to pursue my hobbies in my spare time instead. I had considered changing the name several times over the years, but everyone already knows me by this, so I just continued to go with it.

- No repair requests please. I get a lot of messages from people asking if I can repair their 3dfx cards and other computer components. I do these videos and blog posts a hobby and have very little spare time these days. Also, I’m definitely not an electronics repair expert and still learning as I go, so I don’t feel comfortable doing repairs for others. Thanks for your understanding on this.
