Pastured Poultry

Pastured Poultry

Our pastured broilers are purchased as chicks  from Welp Hatchery in IA.  We raise cornish cross broilers in portable pasture pens modeled after those used by Joel Salatin at Polyface Farm in Swoope, VA.  The portable pens are moved daily, allowing the birds fresh pasture and clean bedding.  Our broilers are fed locally sourced grain.

Starting supper with a whole chicken in front of you can be intimidating. We used the Gordon Ramsey: How to Part a Chicken video to get more comfortable with it! Steph is getting pretty good at it, so if you need any tips for how to part a chicken or what to do with it all, don’t hesitate to ask!

Our favorite way to prepare our chicken is on the grill with a little olive oil, salt, and pepper.

Our chickens dress around 5lbs and are priced at $2.49/lb.  We do not require a deposit for our broilers. We process birds throughout the summer, starting early June and ending in early October. Let us know how many broilers you need and what time you would like them.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our laying hens are a favorite of the whole family!  We buy chicks every spring from local stores and also hatch some of our own eggs.  We have many different breeds of chickens, but they all lay brown eggs.  During the summer the hens live in the eggmobile. During the winter the hens live in a deep bedded coop with an attached greenhouse, so they can get sun during the winter.  The layers are fed locally sourced grain. Our eggs are priced at $2.00/dozen.
