I am associate professor in the Department of Philosophy at National Chengchi University (Taipei, Taiwan), specializing in Chinese Philosophy, Political Philosophy, and Ethics, and holding a Ph.D. from the University of Munich in Chinese Studies and Philosophy.

In the past, I have mostly written on topics of Chinese philosophy and intellectual history (e.g., issues like Neo-Confucianism and its modes of political thinking, the history and methodology of Chinese philosophy, comparative political thought, and modern Chinese thought). My current research project focuses on the question whether and, if so, how Neo-Confucianism, in particular its idea of self-cultivation, can be taken seriously as a comprehensive account of moral experience that is different from Western ethical theories (say Aristotle’s and Kant’s theories). In another research project, I investigate Iris Murdoch’s ethical thinking, especially her understanding of perfection.
