Thanks to My Brother
Growing up in my family was a blast. I have a ton of cousins, aunts and uncles. I also have a younger sister and an older brother, who was suppose to be a role model for my sister and me. Not! As early as I can remember my brother didn’t have the best common sense.
The first time he got high he didn’t know the side effects. He went crazy and our parents had to take him to the hospital. He was grounded but didn’t learn from his mistakes. Instead he kept getting high and tried to be sneaky about it, but my mom figured it out when her lighters keep disappearing which was for hair only. Soon his grades started slipping and our parents had to jump down his throat. Once my parents had the talk with him his grades went from D’s to B’s.
Besides just the smoking and grades my brother got a girl pregnant at the age of 17 and parents were pissed. Mainly because they told him time after time to wrap up. I guess it went in one ear and out the other. Even thought my brother did mess up a lot, He was still there for me when I needed him. Weather it was for school or just someone I needed to talk to and we spent time with each other here and there.
Looking back at all my brother bad habits and things my brother was doing. I know I didn’t want to act that way, especially when I knew I had a sister on the way. I never smoked; ok yes I did but only to try it. I always keep A’s and B’s throughout my middle school years and my high school years. When I did have my little set of girlfriends I never got any of them pregnant. I was too smart to do a dumbass mistake like that. As the years went I was the goody to shoes in the family mainly by not getting in trouble with the law and keeping up with myself, unlike my brother did unfortunately.
My brother was doing really well up until he got another girl pregnant. During this time he had a good job at a car shop working fulltime. Only thing was he still was acting like he was still 17 with his habits. Everything caught up to him the day he went to jail because of not paying child support. At first I was upset about the situation but it only made me stronger at who I am. Plus I found out that my little cousin was looking up to me as well as my sister
Now in days my brother is cleaning up his act and getting his act together finally. He’s going to school, has a girlfriend and a stable job. Other than that, I’m still doing what I got to do to stay in head of the game and make something with my life. I’m getting good grades up here and found a good set of friends up here in college. I figure that everything happens for a reason in life and it depends on how you look at it. My brother messing up gave me the motivation to strive and go all the way with my career.
Overall tell this day I actually thank my brother, for acting a fool when he was younger so that I knew what not to do and act like. I’m in college now heading towards my dream of becoming a doctor in physical therapy making that money. My brother is thinking about going into the navy now this time next year and will come out making that money just like me. Now all we have to wait for, his our little sister who wants to be a pediatrician when she grows up. Life is full of unexpected situations and lifelong turn a rounds. It just depends on how you utilize the situation. So once again I thank my brother for helping me become who I am today.
