There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And Jesus answered and said to them, “Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? “I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. Luke 13:1-3
We have many of God’s people running around the country or sending money to prominent ministries to obtain God’s blessings of healing or deliverance but very few of them have given any consideration to the importance of repentance even though God’s word tells them:
“When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, “if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:13-14
Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures. Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. James 4:1-10
The Word of God tells us to examine ourselves as to whether we are in the faith. Test ourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?-unless indeed you are disqualified (2 Corinthians 13:5). It also tells us to judge ourselves less God judges us. For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. (1 Corinthians 11:31). It also tells us to submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from us. Draw near to God and He will draw near to us. Humble ourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift us up! the reality of life is that there are many people who don’t examine or judge themselves concerning their character and spiritual matters just like they don’t examine or check themselves to see if they are sick. We had a dear friend of ours who disliked doctors amongst other things and refused to see them until one day he became really sick. But by then it was too late for the doctors had discovered that cancer has spread all over his body. And he died about a week later. We cannot allow things in our lives to go unchecked or out of control or we will pay the price of our foolishness in the disastrous consequences that will follow – as they always do. God’s word is unchanging:
Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:7-10
Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. James 5:14-16
God is the Way-Maker, the wind in the storm, the harvester, the Changer and the Shifter. No one can stand in His path. He opens and closes all doors. Not all who call on God saying ‘Lord, Lord’ shall enter His Kingdom, but only those who are truly worthy and open and desire His Will and not their own. God knows who they are. He knows His true servants. He is not fooled by men’s outward appearance and behavior. He is not fooled, nor taken away by very whim of man. He has remained longsuffering and forbearing, trying to give room for a change of heart, yet men have not opened themselves to Him nor have they changed.
God expects His people to do what’s right. He expects them to bring justice and judge rightly. They have no choice in this. They must do what is right. They must act with righteousness. They must seek justice and wisdom. They must uphold truth at all costs! They have no choice they must do it. He has called them to do it. He did not give them the right to pick and choose their preferences of what they do. He told them directly. He commanded them to do what is right. They have their orders from their Commander-in-Chief!
But God is upset with their willful wayward ways. He is literally shocked that they can’t do what’s right and hear Him calling them! He is furious with them and His wayward ones will pay the price for their self-righteousness. He will have it no other way because they have turned their back on Him when they turned it on righteous, justice and truth.
God’s true ones must let Him be their confidence, strength and high tower. They are to run to Him and He will provide for them all they desire and need. Pleasures should not be the priority of existence on this earth to His people. Material gain should not be what counts. God will provide but it is not of paramount importance. What counts is–are the needs of the fatherless, widowed, imprisoned and dying meet? Has hope been provided to the end of their days? Has peace be provided to every dying sheep in the pastures out there? The shepherds alone should not be doing this job. All of God’s people should be doing this job and not just the leaders. Ten percent must do ninety percent of the work. Why? God has ordained everyone with hands and feet and time to give. He wants more from His people. He wants much, much more. He is tired of waiting to see what they will do. It is time for them to turn to Him and look into His face and go and do what He has commanded them to do. They must do what He has called them to do? They are called to do His will in good service to others. To love and forgive and care and carry the burdens of others. To make the yoke easier not heavier. To give new hope and spring in their step. This is possible through the empowerment of His people as they depend on Him and receive His power, gifts and word. They must act and go do what Good has called them to do. It is in the word, let them do it.
God’s call through the prophets is to tell His people what they already know. To call them to action, to love, to work, to heartfelt trust, to do what He has ordained them to do. To obey His Word and His commandments in the Bible. Then they will be in His true service and doing His perfect will. Albeit, not perfectly. But God looks at the heart not the perfection of the effort. But effort must be put forth in order to bring results. The ox must tread the grain or else it has not worked. God’s ox must willingly go to work or their will be no harvest and no revival. No souls saved and changed and healed. Only work will do this. God people must go to work and His people must pray that the Lord of the harvest will but workers into the fields to harvest for great is the harvest but the laborers are few.
Any ministry must be of God. It must reflect His person and power and promises and definitely God’s presence. Their love for people must be deep and their dedication sure. But all of God’s servants must be warned not to let success, fortune and fame go to their heads or their children. They must walk in humility and love and peace and joy in God. Turn it all to Him and give Him all the Glory and He will bless them more than every imagined possible. They must say very close to Him and spend time with Him regularly. They must not be afraid of the gifts and walk in assurance of His presence and control.
God’s true ones are not to be concerned for finances and help, as God will provide all. They are to walk very close to Him. Ask everything of Him. They are not to be arrogant in their own conceit but walk in tenderness and compassion towards others. They are not to dress proudly or walk proudly for its God’s gift and His work He is giving them the privilege of watching Him do this through them.
God still rules in the kingdom of men and gives to whomever He chooses the right to rule. His dominion is an everlasting dominion; His kingdom is from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does what ever He wants even among the inhabitants of the earth. All of His works are truth and His ways are justice and those who walk in pride He is more than able to put down. Even in this day and age that we live in God gives grace to the humble and resists and puts down the proud. These are truths that many of God’s people are still to learn the hard way. God’s word tells of a proud one who did not listen to prophet Daniel nor take his advice and what happened to him:
This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the Most High, which has come upon my lord the king: They shall drive you from men, your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make you eat grass like oxen.
They shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses. And inasmuch as they gave the command to leave the stump and roots of the tree, your kingdom shall be assured to you, after you come to know that Heaven rules.
Therefore, O king, let my advice be acceptable to you; break off your sins by being righteous, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps there may be a lengthening of your prosperity.”
All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar. At the end of the twelve months he was walking about the royal palace of Babylon. The king spoke, saying, “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?”
While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you! And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.”
That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles’ feathers and his nails like birds’ claws.
And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: for His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; He does according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth. No one can restrain His hand Or say to Him, “What have You done?”
At the same time my reason returned to me, and for the glory of my kingdom, my honor and splendor returned to me. My counselors and nobles resorted to me, I was restored to my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added to me.
Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, all of whose works are truth, and His ways justice. And those who walk in pride He is able to put down. (Daniel 4:24-37)
