The Pink Skull Strikes

October 18, 2009

The Barrington Rotary 5k Trick or Treat Trot this morning was a success!

I woke up around 6:15 AM to have coffee and an english muffin with pumpkin butter, perfect fuel for my morning.  I was very tired as we went to a wedding downtown Chicago Saturday night and didn’t arrive home until midnight (recap to follow this week).

However, my awesome race outfit definitely perked me up.  Race time temp was 31 degrees!

Check out the sweet hot pink racing stripe down the side!

I’m ready to run my 3rd 5k of the season in the coldest weather yet!

I got to the set up area and it was a course near to the 5 miler I did in September, so I knew what to expect with the hilly streets we would be running through.  It was COLD!!  I jogged up and down the street to stay warm and chatted with some running buddies including Cathy from my Freedom Run.

Before we knew it we were lined up and taking off!  The first mile was COLD and hard to breathe.  I strapped on my headphones and hoped my ipod would withstand the cold and just went.  Before I knew it I was at mile 1 and they were calling out the time of 10:30.  Pretty speedy for me!  I was warmed up by now so I took off.  The rest of the course was cold, but I kept going.  There were a few big hills including one at the end before we ran down to the finish line.  My watch said my final time was 32:36 but I think the official time might be a few minutes slower.

I have had great success this year in getting faster.

March 2009 Green Bay 5k:  36:32

July 2009 Race for Young Life: 34:43

October 2009 Trick or Treat Trot: 32:36 (not official time yet)

Taking 2 minutes off each run consistently is pretty good in my book! My goal is to run a sub 30 minute 5k.

When I got done with the race I checked the temp in my car:

BRRRRRR!  So I rewarded myself with what I had been craving all week:  a London Fog from Starbucks.  It is a Earl Grey tea latte with a pump of vanilla syrup.  So good and warm.

That is my post race “glow” look!! HA!

I came home, showered up, and got ready for the baby shower I was attending.

Our friends are having twins but don’t know the sex of the babies so I wrapped one in pink and one in blue just in case!

I am sooo tired at this point! Check out my tired look…do you see a spooky pumpkin in the background?

I went to the shower and had fun catching up with girlfriends and then finally came home and took a nap for about an hour.  I was glad to hear the Packers won their game!  I am going to be going to bed EARLY tonight so I can get ready for the week.

I hope you all had a GREAT weekend and I will be back tomorrow with a recap of the wedding we attended on Saturday.
