Oklahoma Offers Corey Copping

Temple City's Corey Copping has been offerred a full ride by Oklahoma

(Temple City) – Temple City pitcher Corey Copping has received a scholarship offer to pitch for the University of Oklahoma Ram Coach Barry Bacon confirmed Thursday.

“They brought him out on a trip to Oklahoma and he took a tour last weekend. They offerred him a full ride,” Bacon said.

Copping, who also received an offer from Santa Barbara, hasn’t decided yet but is leaning towards the Sooners.

“They told him to go home, take his time and think about it. It’s a big decision.” Bacon said. “He’s a quality kid and he’ll do fine at the college level.”

Copping has a 1.24 ERA and 48 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched. He’s allowed just 24 hits all year. Last year he was 4-2 with an ERA of 0.97 and 59 K’s in 50 innings.

“He really showed he was D1 material pitching for the Saints last year in the summer leagues,” Bacon said. “That’s where they really started to notice him. The pro scouts noticed him out there also.”

Temple City took a road trip earlier this month to Las Vegas and Copping had the scouts interested there as well.

“There’s a good story there. We were out there playing Arbor View who is a really good team and all the scouts were there to see this kid from Arbor View,” Bacon said. “Then Corey goes out and pitches a heckuva game and the scouts were saying ‘Who’s this kid? Why didn’t we know about him before?’ He really got noticed out there.”

UCLA and Pepperdine have also expressed interest but Oklahoma and Santa Barbara are the ones who have brought the serious offers Bacon confirmed.

Copping is expected to make a decision with in the next few weeks.
