[The Chippy Challenge: to eat more fish and chips in 2014; see original post for details.]
Fish: cod
Sides: chips and peas plus a pint of World’s End Dark (brewed in the pub…they’ve got three on tap and it is wonderful stuff and only available in the pub)
Evaluation: After the denial of menu items at the Golden Swan, I continued my run — without planned nourishment — toward Pewsey. I ducked into the Crown and asked if they could do a fish and chips for me; “of course,” said the landlady. When I pointed out that I was concerned they might only do roasts on Sunday she said, “don’t be silly, people like to have a bit of variety, don’t they?” Yes, they do.
The plate might not look especially artisan with the freezer chips and peas, but the fish was delicious and cooked to perfection and the hostess was lovely and my company out in the garden (the pub cat) was a pleasant addition. This is the way to finish a run…or, should I say, this is the way the World’s End.
