The golf team fell to Amherst and Williams on Wednesday in the annual Little Three match, falling to the Lord Jeffs by an 8-4 score and the Ephs by a 12-0 count. Williams also took down Amherst 8-4 to win its 11th straight Little Three title. The championship was hosted by Wesleyan and played at the par-72 Lyman Meadows Golf Club in Middlefield.

The match used match play scoring, instead of stroke play scoring like in the Cardinals’ previous matches. Both teams had four pairs for two-man alternating-shot match plan and also had the eight golfers do a round of individual match play.

In two-man match play, Wesleyan won one of its four matches against Amherst and lost all four to Williams. The No. 1 duo of Pete Taylor ’12 and John Torrenti ’09 held a five-stroke lead on the Amherst counterparts with four holes to play for the win; they also lost to Williams 4 and 3. Wesleyan fell to Amherst at No. 2 (Eli Wilson ’09 and Alex Levin ’12, 2 and 1), No. 3 (Dan DeRienzo ’11 and Charlie Alderman ’11, 6 and 4), and No. 4 (Dallas Bossort ’09 and A.J. Ferraro ’12, 9 and 8). The Cardinals dropped the other three matches to Williams as well (No. 2, 3 and 2; No. 3, 6 and 5; No. 4, 6 and 5.)

Taylor (No. 1, 4 and 3), Wilson (No. 2, 3 and 2) and Levin (No. 3, 1-up) all defeated Amherst in individual play. All three also fell to Williams (Taylor 1-up, Wilson 4 and 3, and Levin 5 and 3). At No. 4, Torrenti fell to both opponents 3 and 2; No. 4 DeRienzo lost to Amherst 2 and 1 and Williams 5 and 4. At No. 6, Alderman fell to Amherst 2-up and Williams 4 and 3. No. 7 Ferraro dropped a pair of narrow matches, losing to Amherst 1-up and Williams 2-up. At No. 8, Bossort fell to both Amherst and Williams 5 and 4.

Wesleyan went 10-13 in the spring season and finished 36-87-1 overall.
