Wesleyan’s track teams recorded a quartet of first-place finishes in the M.I.T. Invitational on Saturday in their final tune-up before the annual New England Division III meets. The Cardinal men brought home a trio of top finishes, while the women had one first-place and two second-place finishes.

The Wesleyan men continued their dominance of the mile run as Wesleyan runners finished first, third, and fifth in the event. Chris Foster ’09 took first in the event with a time of 4:31.35, while Matt Katz ’11 and Henry Kaplan ’10 were right behind him at third and fifth, respectively. Wesleyan was also well represented in the 3000-meter run, as Jonah Blumstein ’09, Justin Spring ’10 Charles Lang ’11, and James Lawrence ’12 finished first through fourth. Tommie Lark ’11 also continued his dominance in the long jump with a first-place distance of 22’ 4.5”. Lark also finished third in the 200-meter dash, right behind second-place Dan Manuyag ’10. In addition, Brad Litchfield ’09 and Chris Coleman ’10 finished second and third, respectively, in the 800m.

Liz Wheatley ’09 also brought home a first-place finish for the Cardinals with a time of 18:32.22 in the 5000-meter run. The women also had second-place finishers in the 400-meter dash (Julia Frieze ’12, 1:01.36) and the 4×200-meter relay as Yulhee Cho ’11, Kiran Sheffrin ’10, Frieze and Kathryn Kulowski ’11 combined for a time of 1:55.18. Wesleyan also took third in the 4×400-meter relay as well as the 600-meter dash.

The Cardinals’ next action comes Friday in their respective two-day New England Division III Meets. The men will return to M.I.T. for the meet, while Bowdoin will host the women’s meet.
