The men’s and women’s crew teams opened the fall season over the weekend with the Head of the Housatonic and Head of the Connecticut Regattas. The Wesleyan women placed third out of six boats in the Collegiate Eight event in the Head of the Housatonic, which was held Saturday in Shelton, Conn. Williams (17:14.1) took the overall team title by over a minute over Coast Guard (18:20.4), with Wesleyan clocking in at 19:12.9. The Cardinals’ second entry placed sixth in the event, coming in at 21:00.4.

The Wesleyan men also had two entries in the Collegiate Eight event, which placed fifth and ninth out of 11 boats. Coast Guard placed first in the event with a time of 15:07.8. Wesleyan’s fifth-place boat clocked in at 15:24.4, while its second entry finished in 16:40.5. Wesleyan also had a Collegiate Four entry that placed 15th of 16 boats (21:11.8) and a Collegiate Novice Eight boat that placed fifth of 12 (18:39.8).

Both crews also competed in the Head of the Connecticut Regatta, but neither had any varsity entries. Wesleyan will be back in action this weekend with the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston.
