Sarah Miller ’12 went 3-2 and reached the consolation bracket semifinals at the three-day Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships, which were held over the weekend at MIT. In addition to Miller, Anika Fischer ’10 and the doubles tandem of Genevieve Aniello ’13 and Meredith Holmes ’10 competed at the ITAs, amassing a combined 2-3 record.

Miller lost her opening match to Bowdoin’s Chantelle Lavern 6-2, 6-3, but rebounded to trounce Springfield’s Amy Shaw in her next match, 6-2, 6-0. Miller then defeated Alexandra Paicquad of Bates in her next match; Miller lost the first set 6-3, but took the second 6-2 and then earned a 10-4 victory in the tiebreaker. She won her next match against Vassar’s Jen Beckerman in similar fashion, pulling out a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 victory. In the bracket semifinals, Miller lost a tight affair to Middlebury’s Jamie Haar, 7-6, 7-5.
Fischer won her first match in straight sets against Olivia Merns of Trinity, 6-3, 6-1, but fell in the subsequent battle against Williams’ Kristin Alotta, 6-4, 6-2. Aniello and Holmes dropped their first match to the Bates tandem of Meg Anderson and Jacqui Holmes 8-1, but defeated Liza Pope and Maggie Taylor of Simmons, 8-3, to open the consolation bracket. The Cardinals would get no further, however, as they were defeated by the Amherst duo of Caroline Richman and Jill Wexler, 8-4.

The Cardinals have their first match of the fall on Saturday, when they host Assumption at 1 p.m.
