Huge Marriage Equality Marches Around Australia Stop Traffic

Thousand of LGBT people and allies braved the rain and marched in Australia today, in support of marriage equality, in different centers, including Melbourne, where a crowd of about 600 descended on Parliament. Prime Minister Tony Abbott is anti-marriage equality.  Although he attended his gay sister’s wedding to support her, he does not believe marriage should be a civil right for gays and lesbians.  Many called for an end to his homophobia.

Matt Davis was at the Melbourne march and he reports that the marches were able to get a great deal of attention through sheer numbers, stopping traffic and train as they marched from the State Library to Parliament. Here is his pictorial:
