New Year’s eve on Formby beach

Walking this morning on the beach at Formby Point, the mist and low skies that have settled in since the thaw seemed to dissolve the boundaries between land, sea and sky.

a sea mist closing
every distance
cliffs falling away
from the edge of a world
only half accomplished

listen
feel your way out
into what might
wave or rock
take form
– Thomas A Clark, The Hundred Thousand Places

There had been a very high tide and large numbers of jellyfish had been left stranded along the sand.  At the high tide line, mounds of frozen surf were a reminder of the exceptionally low temperatures recorded along this coast ten days ago.

  1. After walking through fire in 2010, what will you do in 2011? Hope it’s a good one for you and yours – and the blog, too.
