Obituary: Mary (Davies) Jeffery

Mary (Davis/Davies) Jeffery was a daughter of my ggg-grandparents, Jacob Davies II and Jennifer “Jane” Blewett. She was a sister to my gg-grandfather, John B. Davis.

Mary was born on July 27, 1832, in Cornwall, England. A few years after her father died, Mary immigrated to the United States with her mother and siblings, first settling in Pennsylvania.

John Jeffery and Mary married in June 23, 1853 in Pennsylvania. They had nine children, including: William, Joseph Alexander, Sherman William Tecumseh, Edward, John and Thomas. I do not know the names of the other children.

Besides Pennsylvania, John and Mary lived in Wisconsin and South Dakota.

John died in South Dakota in 1907. Mary died  a few months later, on March 28, 1908 in Dubuque, Dubuque Co, Iowa.  She passed away at the home of niece Clara (Davis) Smith.  (Clara’s parents were Jacob Davis III and Jane Moyle.)

Burial made in Egan, Moody Co, South Dakota, at Hillside Cemetery.

Mary’s obituary appeared in the Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA), on March 29, 1908, p 2, col 3. I found her obituary at Google Newspaper Archives.
