“Majboor” (1974) was the first movie with this title that I became aware of. Later I came to know that movies wit the same title were released in 1948 and 1964 as well.
Being a child of 1970s, I liked the songs of “Majboor”(1974) and regarded the music of other two movies with the same title as “boring”.
But now, when I look back, I find that only three songs from “Majboor” (1974) have been discussed in the blog till now. These three “Majboor” (1974) songs have been discussed in the blog in 2008, 2009 and 2011 respectively. Six years have passed since. In the meanwhile all the songs of “Majboor”(1948) as well as “Majboor”(1964) have already been covered in the blog.
Yesterday, I made a list of movies that have just one or two songs left in them. It became quite a rewarding and eye opening exercise as it gave me a bird’s eye view of which movie stood where vis a vis its YIPPEEHOOD.
Perural of this list revealed to me that “Majboor”(1974) had five songs in it and two songs were yet to be covered. And interestingly the two songs were basically the same song, sung by two different singers- in other words, a multiple version song. So one writeup is all that was needed to get this movie to join the list of already YIPPEED movies. If only I knew this fact all these years. 🙂
Here is this lovely multiple version song from I see that this blog has all the songs of “Majboor”(1974). It is a moving brother-sister song. The first version is sung by Kishore Kumar and it is lip synced by Amitabh Bachchan for his wheel chair bound sister played by Farida Jalal while Master Alankar (playing the younger brother) and Sulochana (playing the mother) look on.
The second version is sung by Lata for Master Alankar who is singing the same song for Farida Jalal during less happier times (Amitabh Bachchan finds himself behind bars at that time and as a result he is not present with the family.)
The song is penned by Anand Bakshi. Music is composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.
This movie was signed up by Amitabh Bachchan at a time when his fate in Hindi movies was uncertain and his movies were flopping all around. Even this movie did not do all that well at the box office but “Zanjeer” (1973) had already happened by this time, which had given him a foothold from where hhe firmly got himself established and entrenched in Hindi movies.
Whenever I listen to the songs of “Majboor”(1974), I feel that the songs of this movie in a way reflect the travails of Amitabh Bachchan during the earlier days of his career.
With this nice and moving song, “Majboor”(1974) joins the list of movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

dekha phoolon ko kaanton pe sote huye
dekha toofaan ko kashti dubote huye
dekh sakta hoon main kuchh bhi hote huye
nahin main nahin dekh sakta tujhe rote huye
nahin main nahin dekh sakta tujhe rote huye
dekh sakta hoon main kuchh bhi hote huye
dekh sakta hoon main kuchh bhi hote huye
nahin main nahin dekh sakta tujhe rote huye
nahin main nahin dekh sakta tujhe ae ae rote huye
ek din bigdi kismat sanwar jaayegi ee ee
ek din bigdi kismat sanwar jaayegi
ye khushi humse bach kar kidhar jaayegi
gham na kar
zindagi yoon guzar jaayegi
raat jaise guzar gayi sote huye
nahin main nahin dekh sakta tujhe rote huye
nahin main nahin dekh sakta tujhe ae ae rote huye
tu bhi sun le
jo maine suna ek din n n
tu bhi sun le
jo maine suna ek din
baagh mein sair ko main gaya ek din
ek maalan ne mujhse kaha ek din
khel(?) kaanton se kaliyaan pirote huye
nahin main nahin dekh sakta tujhe rote huye
nahin main nahin dekh sakta tujhe rote huye
dekh sakta hoon main kuchh bhi hote huye
dekh sakta hoon main kuchh bhi hote huye
nahin main nahin dekh sakta tujhe rote huye
nahin main nahin dekh sakta tujhe ae ae rote huye
