Yash Chopra was born on 27 september (1931) whereas Lata’s birthday falls one day later on 28 september (1929). “We re both librans and thus understand each other as persons, perfectly..” wrote Yash Chopra in his Foreward to Lata Geetkosh (vol VI) which was complied and edited by Snehashish Chatterji, a Lata devotee par excellence who has made it his life’s mission to bring out all the lyrics of Lata in various volumes of Lata Geetkosh and the above Vol VI is the first volume in the series which covers Lata’s songs from 1966 to 1970.. The first few pages of the book, which give the statistics of Lata songs during that period is in itself worth the price of the volume (Rs/-695/-). These statistics page tell us that Lata sang 549 songs in 233 movies from 1966-1970 which included 382 solos, 132 duets (with male singers) and 32 duets (with female singers) and three other songs.

The author, a government official in West Bengal is hoping to sell at least 200 copies of this volume so that the earning from this volume could be ploughed back in financing the publishing of the next volume. I have tried to help in my own small way by buying a copy of this book.

Well, that is how it is for HFM enthusiasts. If they want to share their HFM related passion with others then they have to do it as a labour of love, spending time and money from their own means. I have in fact read about some music lovers who had to dig deep into their lives’ savings to finance the publishing of their music related books. HFGK, the grand parent of all such efforts in no different. Hamraj, the legend behind the HFGK has devoted his entire life and considerable amount of finances to fund his life’s passion. When he could not find any publisher then he himself published the volumes of HFGK. Any positive contributions from people who make money out of HFM (viz music world, media, government etc) in sponsoring these projects is conspicuous by their absence.

May be this is a blessing in disguise. Absence of sponsoring means that the authors of these ventures have full freedom to bring out their publications according to their own will instead of being forced to do the bidding of their sponsors and thus diluting/ distorting the contents of their publications.

As mentioned above, Yash Chopra and Lata closely share their birthdays. They in fact collaborated together in sevetal movies as well, beginning from “Daag” and ending with “Veer Zaara”. On this occasion, here is a song from “Nakhuda” (1981), a movie produced by Yash Chopra and directed by Dilip Naik. The movie had Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Swaroop Sampat, Raj Kiran, Madan Puri, Javed Khan, Vikas Anand, Sudhir Dalvi, Bharat Kapoor, Madhu Malhothra, Mac Mohan, Yunus Parvez, Asha Sachdev, Jagdish Raj, Mahaan, Murlidhar, Bandini, Nandini, Umesh, Murari, Chand, Raj Verma, Chandu, Pardesi, Madhu Malhotra, Amarnath, Rajesh, Rauf Khan etc in it.

This song is sung by Lata and Nitin Mukesh. Nida Fazli is the lyricist. Music is composed by Khaiyyam.

The song is picturised on Swaroop Sampat and Raj Kiran.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

Lyrics(Provided by Prakashchandra)

suno ik baat bolen
suno ik baat bolen
kyaa
hamein tumse muhabbat hai
hamein tumse muhabbat hai ae
miley ho jabse tum hamko
ye duniyaa khoobsoorat hai
ye duniyaa khoobsoorat hai ae

sataati hain hawaayein
chhedte hain
sar phire baadal
sataati hain hawaayein
chhedte hain
sar phire baadal
kabhi pehle toh itni
shokhiyaan
kartaa naa thhaa aanchal
suno ek baat bolein
kyaa
issee kaa naam chaahat hai
issee kaa naam chaahat hai

miley ho jabse tum hamko
ye duniyaa khoobsoorat hai
ye duniyaa khoobsoorat hai ae

tumhaari zulf ki
khushboo se tanhaayee
sajaa lein hum
tumhaari zulf ki
khushboo se tanhaayee
sajaa lein hum
ijaazat ho toh tumko
apni baahon mein
chhupaa lein hum

suno ik baat bolen
kyaa
tumhein isski ijaazat hai
tumhein isski ijaazat hai ae
miley ho jabse tum hamko
ye duniyaa khoobsoorat hai
ye duniyaa khoobsoorat hai ae

hamein jo dhoondhte hain
hum unhee ke
dil mein rehte hain
hamein jo dhoondhte hain
hum unhee ke
dil mein rehte hain
jawaan baanhon ki basti mein
issee ko
pyaar kehte hain

suno ik baat bolen
kyaa
hamein isski zuroorat hai
hamein isski zuroorat hai ae
miley ho jabse tum hamko
ye duniyaa khoobsoorat hai
ye duniyaa khoobsoorat hai

Have you all noticed, there is hardly any brother/sister/son in singing that has been equally successful. Only Ashaji, sister of Lataji, is the exception. Talat’s son, C H Atma’s brother, Mukesh’s son, Kishore’s son all failed. Another exception is K C Dey and Manna Dey.

Guptaji,
Generally they all fail (bound to fail) miserably as they got it all on a silver platter without any struggle. Their elders had gone through baptism by fire; agni-pareeksha. Do you see the same junoon in Abhisek’s eyes like his father. No way. So there.
To explain Asha’s case. She was never supported by Lata; in fact she tried to pull her down. Asha became more adamant and by her dint of hard work she even excelled Lata. Further she was a outcast because of the marriage with Maruti Bhosle’s; that made her all the more determined.
Why talk of others. Does our sons have the same dogged perseverance like us.
