“Shakuntala” (1943), as the name suggests, was about the mythological tale of Shakuntala and Dushyanta as contained in Mahabharat. Shakuntala’s son was Bharat (according to legends-the county was named after him) and his descendents were Kaurav and Pandav. The tale of Shakuntala was described by Kalidas in his Sanskrit drama called “Abhigyaan Shankuntalam”.
“Shakuntala” (1943) was the first movie produced under the banner of Rajkamal Production. The movie, which was produced and directed by V Shantaram had Jayshree in title role with Chandramohan playing king Dushyanta. Parshuram played Kanva muni (muni who had brought up several girls including Shakuntala in his ashram). Madan Mohan (music director of later years) had also played a role in this movie.
Four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.
Here is the fifth song from the movie. This song takes place at Kanva Muni’s ashram where the muni finds Shakuntala happy. He as well as the sakhis of Shakuntala enquire the reason for her happiness.
This song is sung by Parshuram, Zohrabai Ambalewaali and Jayshree. Ratan Piya is the lyricist. Music is composed by Vasant Desai.

Lyrics
aa
tumhe prasann yoon dekh ke ae ae
naach uthha aakaash
?? par bhi aa gaya
sundar ek prakaash
aao sakhi ri aao
aao sakhi ri aao
apni sundar aasha ke phool khilaao
aao sakhi ri aao
man mandir ke dwaar dwaar par
vandanwaar bandhaao o
vandanwaar bandhaao
sukh sapnon se hriday bhawan ko
hans hans aur sajaao o o o
o o o
o o o
aao sakhi ri aao
jeewan ki uthhti lahron ko
jeewan ki uthhti lahron ko
gin gin mauj bandhaaon
gin gin mauj bandhaaon
nai umangen
nai tarange
nai umangen
nai tarange
unpe rang chadhaao

gaao ri
naacho ri

naacho ri
gaao ri
naacho ri
aao aao aao o o
aao sakhi ri aao
aao sakhi ri aao
apni sundar aasha ke phool khilaao
aao sakhi ri aao
