“Madmast” (1953) was directed by Jagdish Pant for Sweet Pictures. The movie had Ansari, Nirupa Roy, Shashikala, Shakeela, Sapru, Mukri etc in it.

This was a B grade movie which has been forgotten with time.

The movie may be B grade as well as forgotten, but its music (equally obscure) deserved to be better known. One song from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the other song from the movie.

This song is sung by Lata. Madhur Raj (?) is the lyricist. Music is composed by V Balsara.

myswar mentions the name of the lyricist as Madhukar Rajasthani. I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us whether Madhur Raj and Madhukar Rajastani were one and the same or two different individuals.

The lyrics of this song are the most memorable part of this song. Time flies and how age catches up with us without our realising this fact is the sentiment of this song which is expressed quite nicely and effectively in this song.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

PS-Now we know (thanks to Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh and Mr Harish Raghuwansi) that Madhuraj was the same as Madhukar Rajasthani. I also found from another source (book “Hindi Filmon Ke Geetkaar” by Anil Bhargav) that Madhukar Rajasthani had used the name of Madhuraj for “Madmast” (1953).

Song-Kab beet gayi jeewan ki subah (Madmast)(1953) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Madhuraj, MD-V Balsara

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

kab beet gayi jeevan ki subah
ye jaan na main to paayi re
bujh gaye deep aashaaon ke
ye kaisi aandhi aayi re ae ae
ye kaisi aandhi aayi re ae
kab beet gayi

duniya ne mera duniya mein
sukh chain hai mujhse chheen liya
sukh chain hai mujhse chheen liya aa
qismat ne khushi ki kaliyon ko
hai man upvan se been liya
hai man upvan se been liya
ab kisko pukaaroon sunta nahin
dukhiya ki koi duhaayi re
dukhiya ki koi duhaayi re
kab beet gayi

jab laakhon thhe sun’newaale
tab kehne ko thhi baat nahin
tab kehne ko thhi baat nahin
ab laakhon baate kehni hai
aur sun’newaala saath nahin
aur sun’newala saath nahin
main poochhoon kise jaakar ke prabhu
main poochhoon kise jaakar ke prabhu
ye kisne aag lagaayi re
ye kisne aag lagaayi re
kab beet gayi

It should be Madhu Raj. This is one of only 3 songs penned by him; all sung by Lata. he could be only lyricist who wrote only 3 songs and all of them sung by Lata. 100% record.
I feel Madhu Raj and Madhukar Rajasthani could be 2 different person, because Lata has never sung songs penned by Madhukar R.
Or could be Lata did not like the longer name so he came up with shorter one. Just kidding.

Atul ji,

Shri Harish Raghuvanshi ji has confirmed that Madhu Raj and Madhukar Rajasthani are ONE. This has been clarified by the MD V.Balsara to him personally.
