Reham kabhi to farmaao

Finally, here is a Johnny Walker song as the ‘R’ song of this series. I had earlier intended to post a Mehmood-S.D.Burman-Rafi solo, which was replaced by another song, as both Mehmood and SDB were to appear again in separate songs. This is a Rafi-Geeta Dutt duet from the film ‘Society” (1955), composed by S. D. Burman and the lyricist is Saahir Ludhianvi. This was prior to ‘Pyaasa’ when these two SDB and Sahir were working together. Later on I think R. D. Burman worked with Saahir in some films. It is good to have a song by Sahir too in this series. Most of Sahir’s well known songs are already posted with his tally reading 400 plus songs in the blog.
I am glad to have found this duet of Rafi-Geeta to post here too. I have kept aside another wonderful duet song for some point in future. As per the excel sheet this song is picturised on Johnny Walker and Kumkum. In the absence of video, we have to rely on the information available. It is surprising that no songs from this film are posted till now despite the musical team of SDB-Saahir.
There is very little information available on imbd site on this movie. The cast is Iftekhar, Nasir Khan, Vikram Kapoor, Nimmi, Kumkum and Johny Walker.
I am trying to include different types of Rafi songs, with different teams. There are still some significant genres yet to be covered. And only a few alphabets remain in the series-eight to be precise after this song. There are also different decades to be considered. I think that songs of 50’s have got enough representation, and now it is time for some songs from 60’s. Next one is ‘S’ and there is a stirring Rafi solo composed by none other than Shankar -Jaikishan(which was luckily not yet posted).
Meanwhile this duet is quite enjoyable, and it is an obviously Johnny Walker type of song. Rafi-Geeta duets are as important part of the Rafi Sahab’s repertoire as Rafi-Lata and Rafi-Asha. One more such duet song is to follow in the coming days.
Song-Reham kabhi to farmaao maao meri laila (Society)(1955) Singers-Rafi, Geeta Dutt, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-S D Burman
Lyrics
Reham kabhi to farmaao
maao
maao meri laila
oonche suron mein mat gaao
gaao
gaao bhai chhaila
ha ha
arey waah waah
Reham kabhi to farmaao
maao
maao meri laila
oonche suron mein mat gaao
gaao
gaao bhai chhaila
phir se lagaao yahi taan tum
phir se yeh pyaari dhun gaao
arey saaf karo zara kaan tum
mat yoonhi shor machaao
ha aa achachha
saamne aao meri jaan tum
chhup ke na teer chalaao
ha ha hua ha
dil se bhulaao meraa dhyan tum
aur kisi ka sar khaao
ho hu huu
Reham kabhi to farmaao
maao
maao meri laila
oonche suron mein mat gaao
gaao
gaao bhai chhaila
maala banaa ke tere naam ki
arey japta hoon shaam savere
hmm mmm
shakl to dekho gulfaam ki
bante hain aashique mere
aisa hi hoga
karni hai baaten badi kaam ki
aao kabhi bhakton ke dere
arey sheeshi mangaa lo zara balm ki
tab sunoon dukhde tere
he hu hu he
Reham kabhi to farmaao
maao
maao meri laila
aa ha hu hu
oonche suron mein mat gaao
gaao
gaao bhai chhaila
teer-e-adaa se hamen maar ke
hmm mmh
madam ab mukhdaa na modo
shut up shut up
jaa aye ? ?
kisi deewar ki
jaa ke sar apna phodo
hrrrrr
tukde hamaare dil-e-zaar ke
kam se kam aadhe hi jodo
maarungi main sandal utaar ke
jaoo bhaago bak bak chhodo
rrrhh rrhh
Reham kabhi to farmaao
maao
maao meri laila
oonche suron mein mat gaao
gaao
gaao bhai chhaila
hh hhrr
reham kabhi to
fa
far
farmaao

Me not heard this song as well. Wonder for whom Rafi was lip-syncing!! My query on the photo: Is it Sajjad Saab on the mandolin in the on the extreme right?
