“Sharbati Aankhen” (1945) is a very obscure movie by now and little information is avaialble on this movie. The most comprehensive information on this movie is available in this blog, thanks to our own beloved inhouse encyclopaedia, Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh. Here is what he has to say about this movie:
SHARBATI ANKHEN(1945),a Wadia Movietone film was produced by Aspi Irani and directed by Ramchandra Thakur. Music was by Firoz Nizami and lyrics were by Tanvir Naqvi, Pt.Indra and Pt.Balam.
The cast included T.R.Rajkumari(heroine), Ishwarlal(hero), Vanmala, Agha, Firoz Dastur, Harish, Kelkar ,Aftab, Rajkumari Shukla, Sumati Gupte etc.
The story of Sharbati Ankhen revolved round a middle class girl and a very rich boy, whose family owed its riches to the father of the girl’s sacrifices for the grandfather of the boy. However,not knowing this , there is the customary resistence to this love story. Only towards the end the secret is revealed and all is well. Vanmala,a noted actress in those days had a very small role in the film.
This movie is of interest to music lovers because this movie has some of the earliest songs sung by Rafi. Those were the days when Rafi was struggling to get a foothold in the industry as a playback singer. His struggle was even tougher because his full throated singing style was an anti thesis to the singing style then prevalent in the industry.
It is to the great credit of Rafi that he continued to sing in his original singing style on the few opportunities that he got, instead of joining the crowd and do the easy thing, viz sing Saigal Style.
One song from “Sharbati Aankhen” (1945) sung by Rafi has been discussed in the past. Here is another Rafi song from this movie. This song is extremely rare song. It is written by Pt Indra Chandra and music is composed by Feroz Nizami.
The audio quality is not satisfactory and I had a hard time noting down the lyrics of the song. There aare several gaps/ errors in the klyrics noted down by me. I request our readers with keener ears to point out the missing words/ erros in the lyrics. Instead of complaining about the poor quality of this song, let us be thankful that such an old and rare song is atleast available for our listening pleasure.
