Chhainya re chhainyaa re taaron ki chhainyaa

on:The trendily titled movie “The Train” (1970) was produced by Ramesh Behl and directed by Ravikant Nagaich. The movie had Rajesh Khanna, Nanda, Rajendranath, Madan Puri, Randhir, Tuntun, Helen, Aruna Irani, Sunder, Iftekhar, Chaman Puri etc in it.
Those who have watched this movie and even those (like me) who have only watched the picturisation of songs of this movie will find it easy to concluse that the movie was conceived with Shammi Kapoor in mind. The amount of Shammi Kapoor like jumping up that Rajesh Khanna does in this song must have taken its toll of the limbs of Rajesh Khanna. Fortunately for the makers of this movie, Rajesh Khanna, signed up during his early days in the Industry, had become the heart throb of the nation by the time this movie came up and this movie figured in the string of 15 or so hit movies that Rajesh Khanna delivered in a row in those heady days.
The music of “The Train” (1970) played an important role in the success of the movie. This movie had six songs in it. Five of these songs have been discussed in the past.
Here is the sixth and final song from this movie. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and chorus. The song is picturised on Aruna Irani and others. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman who those days was to music direction what Rajesh Khanna was to acting, viz the new sensation in his field.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.
With this song, “The Train” (1970) joins the list of 200+ movies that have all their songs covered in the blog.

main main main ka karoon
chhaiyaa re chhainyaa taaro ke chhaiya
saiya re saiya re chhupke saiya
aike pakad li ni baiya

This is R D Burman at his creative best! What a song! What rhythm! And who but Asha to sing it with such gusto! Thank you, Nitinji. By the way, did you know that ‘The Train’ was a remake of a Malayalam hit ‘Cochin Express’?
